Phase 2 Orthodontics

Phase 2 orthodontics, also known as comprehensive orthodontics, refers to the stage of orthodontic treatment that addresses the alignment and function of all the permanent teeth as well as bite correction. This phase typically begins after the majority or all of the permanent teeth have erupted, usually in late childhood or early adolescence, although it can also be initiated in adults.

Phase 2 is recommended for individuals who need comprehensive correction of their teeth and bite. It’s suitable for those who have completed Phase 1 treatment and for those who did not undergo any early intervention but require full orthodontic care.

Yes, Phase 2 treatment is usually necessary even after Phase 1. Phase 1 addresses specific early issues, but Phase 2 is needed to align all the permanent teeth and finalize the bite correction for long-term stability.

Yes, wearing a retainer after Phase 2 treatment is essential to maintain the results and prevent teeth from shifting back to their original positions. Your orthodontist will provide specific instructions on how often and how long you should wear the retainer.

Yes, Phase 2 treatment is designed to address a wide range of bite issues, including overbite, underbite, crossbite, and open bite. Your orthodontist will assess your specific needs and develop a treatment plan to correct these issues.

Phase 2 treatment usually starts between the ages of 11 and 13, when most or all of the permanent teeth have erupted. However, it can also begin in adulthood if no prior treatment was done.
